A male`s inability to produce hard erections for one reason or another is an age-old problem. In fact, solutions to this condition more popularly called male impotence have been developed as early as the 9th century with Muslim physicians of that medieval era taking the credit in pioneering the cures for this male malady termed medically as erectile dysfunction (ED). Many modern methods have been developed to solve the ED problem, and cures would entirely depend on the factors or reasons that have been established as causing the patient to fail to attain an erection that can consummate a sexual union.
Anxiety, stress or depression comes as some of the psychological elements that may cause penile erection failure. Other similar factors include some unresolved conflicts in the sex partners` relationship and fears that the male, especially if less endowed, would be unable to fully satisfy his mate. When these factors have been determined as the root of the male impotence, psychosexual therapy sessions are likely to be the solution that could bring back the male`s sexual competence.
A more direct intervention would be the use of vacuum pumps. What these devices do is enable a rush of blood into the penis, hardening the organ in the same way that increased circulation of blood is promoted in natural penile erection. In order to sustain the erection, a tension ring will be slipped into the base of the penis so that the blood in the penile chambers called corpus cavernosa wont flow back in circulation. Another direct method to tackle male impotence is through injections. This would require some training in administration as the medication will be injected directly into the penis` shaft prior to sexual intercourse. This procedure has to be done 15 minutes prior to the sex act.
A similar system is called the transurethral therapy wherein a pellet-sized drug is inserted via an applicator to the penis` urethra. This will enable penis` erectile tissues to absorb the active ingredients of the drug within five to six minutes and the erection could then be expected.
Hormonal treatment is another avenue among the ways to treat male impotence. As the term suggests, this method is employed only when the male impotence is caused by hormonal deficiency, specifically the lack or low levels of the male hormone testosterone. This type of treatment is always strictly supervised by a doctor and only done when the deficiency has been ascertained. Taking hormone treatments improperly could yield serious side-effects.
Implants are also sometimes used as an ED remedy, but only taken as a last resort. These implants are classified into two: the hydraulic and the semi-rigid. A hydraulic implant is the more sophisticated system as it has a pump implanted in the scrotum which when activated causes the penis to be rigid. The semi-rigid implant to solve the male impotence problem makes the penis always stiff and hard, and the patient needs to bend the sex organ down when not in use. Naturally, this would be very inconvenient. The more convenient ways would be the oral pills. Visit the related link below to learn more on the better ways to address male impotence.
